Renowned R&B singer Angie Stone has tragically passed away at the age of 63 following a devastating car accident. She was traveling in a Sprinter van along with nine other band members, heading to a concert in Montgomery from Atlanta when the accident occurred. Her representative, Deborah R. Champagne, confirmed the heartbreaking news to TMZ on Saturday.

A Grammy-nominated artist, Stone was not just a talented singer but also a songwriter, record producer, and actress. She first rose to fame in the 1970s as a member of the hip-hop group The Sequence. Known for her hit song "No More Rain," she was married to Rodney Stone (a.k.a. Lil Rodney C) of the legendary hip-hop group Funky Four Plus One. The couple, who married in the 1980s, welcomed their daughter Diamond in 1984 but later divorced, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

In the 1990s, Angie was in a relationship with R&B singer D’Angelo, and she reportedly played a crucial role in the creation of his iconic debut album "Brown Sugar." In return, D’Angelo helped with the production of Angie’s debut album, "Black Diamond." The couple had a son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II, born in 1998.

Industry Mourns the Loss of a Musical Icon

Veteran music promoter Van Silk shared his sorrow upon hearing the news of Stone’s passing. In a statement to AllHipHop, he said,
"At first, I thought her passing was due to complications from kidney dialysis, which she had been undergoing. But it turned out to be a tragic vehicle accident. Nine people were in the Sprinter van, returning from a show in Alabama to Atlanta."

Silk further added,
"I will miss Angie dearly because we used to text or call each other in the mornings."

Stone was a beloved figure in the hip-hop and R&B communities. Her group, The Sequence, holds the distinction of being the first all-female group to sign with Sugar Hill Records. Between 1979 and 1985, the band released three albums, featuring hits like "Funk You Up" and "I Just Want You to Know."

The music world has lost a legend, but Angie Stone’s voice and legacy will continue to live on through her timeless music.
